Lobha

Lobha ("greed") is one of the three fundamental driving factors of existence, also known as the unwholesome roots.

Whenever there is the desire for something to happen or something to be attained, this desire has its root in greed. Conditioning makes living beings react to greed without reflecting upon it, thereby ultimately causing suffering.

Many needs in our culture are imagined rather than fundamental. By understanding lobha, these needs can be reexamined, and many of them may turn out to be part of the problem rather than the solution.
